Our Culture and Values
If you serve with AFM, you can expect a culture that promotes:
the word of god
We believe that the Word of God is given to us as the ultimate authority for our lives as followers of Jesus. As a ministry we will encourage biblical literacy and study and will base all of our teaching and training on the scriptures.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Biblical Unity / Family
A very important value of AFM is to seek unity as the Body of Christ. To that end, we will promote a culture of family within our teams. Because AFM is a non-denominational ministry, there will be team members who come from various church backgrounds and experiences. This is a core value for us! We want every team member to feel that they are joining a family of believers that sharpens one another and grows together, and we pray that these connections last a lifetime! Our expectation is that as long as we agree on the core doctrines of Scripture (Saved by Grace alone through Faith alone in Christ alone - which can also be found in our Statement of Faith), we can serve in unity on mission together!
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” ~ Eph 4:3
“I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” ~ Jn 17:23
Freedom
Our desire is to see people come to salvation, pursue deepening intimacy with the Lord, and experience true freedom in their walk with Him. This begins with AFM team members! We desire to create enough margin in our trip experiences for the Lord to minister just as much to the teams as He does through the teams. It is our belief that as our team members and leaders experience deeper freedom, they will be better equipped to walk in power and to bring freedom to those we have come to serve!
“It is for Freedom Christ has set us free, stand firm then and do not be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” ~ Gal 5:1
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” ~ 2 Cor 3:17
Spirit-led
Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon the Church by Jesus through the power of His resurrection, indwelling and sealing every believer in Christ (Ephesians 1:13). Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would be our Helper, our Comforter, our Teacher, the One who convicts of sin and guides into truth (John 14, 16), and that He would empower us for the work of the gospel (Acts 1:8). Our desire is to help our team members cultivate the practice of slowing down, learning to hear the voice of God as He speaks directly to their hearts, through His Word, and through other people. As a ministry we have seen the fruit that comes from being willing to surrender our plans and agendas to the leading of God’s Spirit and to rely fully on His empowering to do the work of sanctification in our lives and for ministry.
“The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” ~ Jn 10:3-4
discipleship
Discipleship is the ultimate value of AFM. Our prayer is that at the conclusion of their time with AFM, team members would have a renewed sense of being loved by their Father, of their position in Christ, of their individual calling and gifting in the Holy Spirit. We pray they would feel the gravity of the call to the Great Commission, and would take that back into their everyday lives. Our desire is to come alongside team members in continual discipleship as they walk out this calling.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” ~ Matt 28:19
